We are at a point where the mighty 3 (Xbox, Wii and Ps3) are all adapting drastically different approaches to harvest the current niche market.
The Wii
The motion controller from the Wii is not the most advanced or impressive piece of kit. It works by sensing LED's on the emitter on the tv. People have talked to me about some of the most basic problems with this system, such as "my wall mounted plasma has nowhere for the LED's" to be honest this is a bigger problem than it sounds, it mean Nintendo has a lack of foresight, the old TV units sitting in the corner will likely become a thing of the past as plasma tv's become cheaper, and as more and more homes are upgrading to these larger , high-definition tv's it makes the already weak Wii graphics look a little shit stained
Xbox 360
I Personally have mixed feelings about project NATAL, unlike the Wii it uses 3D cameras and a monochrome CMOS sensor. its more high-tech than the Wii and promises more than the it by offering face recognition, controller free interaction and the ability to use its surroundings with the games such as the ability to see and use a chair. In concept it may work, it was announced the hardware will be cheap, under the €50 mark, with a product life expectancy of 10 years it is an ambitious plan.
PS3
not alot to say they are a bit behind in this race, they have announced that it will require the PS3 eye toy. At this time there is motion control stick for the PS3, but one cant help but to think its a cheap rip-off a wii controller, this lack of imagination may lead to Sony falling behind in this market contest. Something Sony boasts to have never done before.
