battlefield WIN

Bad Company 2
Ok this is big one so I’m not going to do it in one bite, so let’s start!
Its the year EHH? And we are still fighting those pesky ruskys. Im going to cut the bull here, the games adverts claimed it to be better than COD wm2, Is that not a very bold statement! You don’t put two classic painting in front of a 12 year old American with down syndrome to “pick the best” because they are both good at different levels! Call of Duty had a more polished and glossy look to it were as BFBC2 suffers from stickle-brick-syndrome (not very well rendered graphics). But with that said the game is far more immersive, for example its not “RAMIREZ! STICK YOUR THUMB IN YOUR MOUTH AND FOLLOW THE GOOD GUYS!” Its more like “ hey did you hear something? BOOM!”
That brings me to the next point, destructible cover! I found in all the cod games if the difficulty was turned up, it would end up in a long drawn out fire fight. BFBC2 removes that very quickly with many grenade happy bad guys tanked up on red bull, that said there are times this slows the game down too! If you are in a fire fight and you nice comfy chest high wall goes for a walk, you find you have to fall back further. So the once tense gun battles end up as nothing more than two drunken hicks taking pot shots at each other.
Also i found a few times if i walk into some boxes and walls i have the ability to disintegrate them with mind powers or something, because the just explode out of nowhere
I found the weapon sounds more realistic than COD but with that said the hip fire mode is far to accurate, there was a time I was playing and did not notice I was no scoping with a sniper rifle, something that would normally take skill.

All in all the game was very impressive but it stinks a little bit like rush job, but still the end result was still above average from today’s releases.

Battlefield WTF

Had the most amazing WTF moment today! by request i had intended on reviewing the new Battlefield game, so i got home had coffee and on with the Xbox, Now here's the problem, went to get the demo and i got a big FFFUUU, there was no fucking demo, now I am a student and as such and in a repetitive cycle of either drinking of being broke so i was not going to buy it just for a review.

Now think about this! for a game claiming to be the best FPS this year why is there no demo? do they not think there work would shine past all the hype they set up for it.

If i get my hands on a copy i will give it an honest review but I am a bit pissed that i have to go rent it, I thought the idea of next gen consoles was to stop me going outside, YOU FAILED AT IT!

Where did all the tactics go!

Where did all the tactics go!
We all recall the times of counter strike where you and 4 mates huddled together each one equipped to a special need, be it close quarter, support, sniper or assault. But due to the restrictions of your main gun you needed other classes to survive.

By contrast modern games are aimed directly at the individual gamer, not the team. In any modern FPS or whatever, you can now equip yourself to the teeth like Rambo, for example, you can run into battle with a LMG, shotgun, rockets, grenades and equipment. To an extent the individual focus on the player destroys the team play aspect.

I believe that if this trend continues strategy will be completely removed, this will make the game far less immersive, and if that happens we will find it hard for the genre to grow.

MY RANT

MY RANT

Ever get it when a game try’s to hard? Yeah you did! Some games like fallout 3 had the great idea of getting a big Hollywood actor to do a voice over, great we say how can this be bad? Well liem nelson  manages to talk for about 5 mins in the game and he is gone, makes you wonder why bother, if we cut him out of the game we may have been able to hire another 5 or so vice actors. Something all RPG’s need.

For example my and my “home dog” were playing Oblivion the other day for kicks and found the Nord Olav, talking saying “ no body lives in the jeryll mountains except in bruma, even still they are just nords”. Its not much to ask that a race would not slag there own traits.

Just Cause 2

Just Cause 2

One thing to say OMFG WTF ROFLMAO what a game!
Its is so silly and so fun, I think the voice acting seems to be done my Hispanic porn stars, the action is like a kid with ADD was feed blue bear for  a week and locked in with the development team, I think the protagonist goes to some sort of military IKEA, the drops parachutes like used aids filled condoms and fires his grappling hook more in one level than bond fires his load in a film.

The only real let down in the game in my opinion is the shooting mechanics, imagine a suicide bomber flailing his arms moments before his bomb goes off, well that how gringo shoots when duel wielding, two hand weapons are not to bad. But still not the most solid shooting system.

To conclude the game is very fun but cant be taken very seriously and maybe that is a good thing it’s a game trying to break the mould but it still has a sense of being generic.

Also there is a story but you may not notice and will need to look closely to see it.

FPS

FPS

It all started with both Doom and Wolfenstein, those age old 8-bit 2d games and look where we are now! the shinny high polished, graphics intense balls of joy like crysis and call of duty.

But we are at a point where this will not be enough, there needs to be a new gimmick, a new selling point. Perhaps Project natal can help but with its lack of any shock system may leave the natal as unimpressive as pc gaming. You know how pc gaming is, WSAD scroll scroll click clik NOOB!

Some games take the LOTR approach and try make things Epic, like battlefield  where the game play includes land, sea and air vehicles and also the fps aspect.

Long rant short games need to adapt to survive, some games will flourish through this process, others will fall behind.

The importance of camping

We often class a gamer as a noob right off the mark if the blend into a pile of box's and blow our balls off with a high cal riffle, what we are really pissed off with is we " NEVER CHECK THOSE CORNERS "

Camping is in fact an important game play mechanic, if 24 players are constantly moving it is highly unlikely there will be any good firefight's, i guess you can tell from my tone i am talking about COD.

From my experience, some of the best games i have ever played consisted of half a team "camping" in one building and the team defending there position.

The problem occurs when a player glitches into a position either out of the map or they clip into a wall, either way i think its very disrespectful to both your and your enemy's team, if your so concerned with numbers and ratios play with a fucking calculator!

Next Gen controlls

We are at a point where the mighty 3 (Xbox, Wii and Ps3) are all adapting drastically different approaches to harvest the current niche market.

The Wii
The motion controller from the Wii is not the most advanced or impressive piece of kit. It works by sensing LED's on the emitter on the tv. People have talked to me about some of the most basic problems with this system, such as "my wall mounted plasma has nowhere for the LED's" to be honest this is a bigger problem than it sounds, it mean Nintendo has a lack of foresight, the old TV units sitting in the corner will likely become a thing of the past as plasma tv's become cheaper, and as more and more homes are upgrading to these larger , high-definition tv's it makes the already weak Wii graphics look a little shit stained
Xbox 360
I Personally have mixed feelings about project NATAL, unlike the Wii it uses 3D cameras and a monochrome CMOS sensor. its more high-tech than the Wii and promises more than the it by offering face recognition, controller free interaction and the ability to use its surroundings with the games such as the ability to see and use a chair. In concept it may work, it was announced the hardware will be cheap, under the €50 mark, with a product life expectancy of 10 years it is an ambitious plan.

PS3
not alot to say they are a bit behind in this race, they have announced that it will require the PS3 eye toy. At this time there is motion control stick for the PS3, but one cant help but to think its a cheap rip-off a wii controller, this lack of imagination may lead to Sony falling behind in this market contest. Something Sony boasts to have never done before.

CALL OF DUTY Where next

OK so with out a doubt Tri-arch has had its head busted open by infinity ward, but we seem to be at a cross roads. what can we do now, fictitiously where will the story go in terms of modern combat games go? think about it. How long can we blame the Russians?

COD MW 2 has an overwhelming majority in the on-line market but the online play is less solid than the first game. It's more like a marvel game, gamers running around the top of a sky scraper at the speed of sound carrying more guns than Arny in Predator and bashing people harder that Chunk Norris in Delta Force. I think we need to look more at games like Team Fortress 2, where every effort has been taken to balance the game, and it done so very well. Just play cod and see how long it takes to have your ear blown off with NOOOOOOOOOOOOB!
